speech recognition failure witrh soundmax

The header says it all.....don't tell me I'm the only person in the entire universe that can't get Speech Recognition to work (even start) with whatever it is that Microsoft thinks is Soundmax (Intel P4 D865GBF SM 4) Uninstalled/reinstalled/repaired until I'm blue in the face...despite what the Upgrade Advisor said....something isn't working.

have you done the basic? update soundmax drivers. If that doesnt help, report bug and wait for better drivers or vista to get fixed with that. -- Try, learn, experience.

Thanks. Yes I've tried lots of things. Finally disabled soundmax altogether. It was causing other problems too.
